June 2006, Barcelo Maya Beach, Puerto Aventuras, Mexico
was another trip to the Puerto Aventuras area on the Yucatan Peninsula
of Mexico. We clearly like the area with its beautiful beaches
and proximity to Mayan Ruins.
This time the trip was arranged as an extended family trip with
my sister's and brother's families and our mother. This worked
out surprising well since a resort of this size allowed a wide
range of activities while keeping us together to share
meals and a couple side trips. There are really
four Barcelo resorts combined together at this one location so
there were a variety of pools, recreational facilities, entertainment
venues and beach conditions. This was another Apple trip
that went very smoothly although my brother's family had some complications. This Trip Adviser link
provides info and reviews on the Barcelo Maya Beach Resort. A
number of us visited the Mayan ruins at Tulum which were very
impressive perched on a rocky ridge overlooking a pretty beach.
We traveled to the town of Tulum and the ruins there on a bus
that along with the entry fee at the ruins was very reasonable.
We also visited the touristy shopping area in Playa del Carmen.
